I am going to download Kubuntu Linux and see how it goes. I hope its not made more complex as in some cases this happens when a new version is released.

Great difficulty trying 9.10 from 8.04.
I found it unworkable.
I don't get why the K desktop would have been so totally re-invented that it would be more difficult to use and navigate....all known things seeming to have been re-invented and harder to intuit. Upgrade ran but would not re-install raw on my machine. Very problematic for a novice. I liked the former desktop. It was quick and functional. The new one was impossible and a major time waste to try and use.

@Szilveszter Csaba: Desktop effects are not downloadable - they come with the window manager, KWin. New effects are often added with new releases of KDE, but you can't just download new effects. You can install Compiz, if you like it better, although you may lose some KDE-specific integration by doing so.

I've worked with Kubuntu since version 7 and found it to be the friendliest linux distro v. SuSe or RedHat. However in version 8, when I expeimented with KDE 4, I thought it was too fractured and left it alone. I was hoping for a better integration of KDE 4 in Jaunty. And, that may be but I have one major hurdle to get over.

I dropped a direct broadband internet connection for an EVDO usb modem and went for a clean install of 9.04. Oops! Jaunty has no support for an EVDO connection. I say oops because Hardy-did have support with kppp. Without the Internet my computer is useless. I hope the issuse is resolved in version 10 and I can start over again.
